Uzome Backup 01/21

illustration, animation, patterns

Uzóme (An abbreviation for "os homens", the men) is a way to call the police in São Paulo.

Ask any São Paulo’s citizen and surely they will have stories of abuse, neglect and heroism of these ubiquitous characters in the city scenario.

I started doing first one character then animating it.

Nothing to see here…

Nothing to see here…

Just checking.

Just checking.

I called him Capitão Machado.

I called him Capitão Machado.

After that, I decided to create a whole Tactical Unit.
The "Tático Móvel" is a Chevrolet Blazer with 4 grey berets mean faced Military Police. You usually see them walking at 10km/h looking for trouble or roaring on the bus lane with the strobes on.

Patterns using the two variants of the Blazer: the traditional livery and the all grey ROTA (Ostensive Patrol Regiment).

Printed some:

It was a painstaking job x-acto every pixel of it, but I really liked the result! Each of them was almost 2m large.

I only have few pictures of them on the streets, but was a very fun project to do. The prints are available and free to be downloaded for those who want some Uzóme to protect and to serve for themselves.

Funny to see texturized pixels.

When the 2013 protest took over the streets, mostly because of the tremendous police violence against brazilian citizens living in São Paulo, I decided to revive this project.
